Description
Terroir Sense Fronteres Montsant Guix Vermell Negre is biodynamic Garnacha from vines at 800 metres, a few hundred metres from the Les Manyes vineyard in Priorat.
When Dominik Huber bought his long-coveted Les Manyes vineyard in Priorat's northwest Escaladei canton in 2015, an adjacent four-hectare parcel of Garnacha came with it, lying just over the line in DO Montsant. That vineyard is called Els Montalts and the terroir is all but identical: high in the Montsant ranges at a remarkable 800 metres. Guix Vermell takes its name from the local term for the red clay and gypsum soils, and the Garnacha here was planted some 75 years ago. The site is farmed biodynamically, and Tatjana Peceric and Huber select only the finest fruit from it, producing between 1,000 and 1,600 bottles a vintage. Fermentation is whole-bunch in Italian terracotta amphorae for seven to ten days, followed by a light press and six months back in the same vessels. It was bottled unfined and unfiltered at 13 per cent.
Approachable now and worth five to ten years, it goes with roast poultry, mushroom dishes and mild sheep's cheese. Serve at 15-16°C.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
