Description
Terroir Sense Fronteres Vèrtebra de la Figuera is old-vine Garnacha from among the highest vineyards in the Montsant range.
The name means the spine of Figuera, and the wine is all Garnacha from three old, high plots in that village, near the former slate-mining settlements of El Lloar and El Molar. La Figuera sits within the comarca of Priorat, but its wines fall under DO Montsant rather than DOQ Priorat. At 700 to 800 metres on the slopes of the Montsant range, these are among the highest vineyards in the area. The soils are red clay-limestone with layers of gypsum, alkaline rather than acid, and the fruit they give is fresh and fine enough that local growers call their vines Garnatxa Fina. The oldest vines in the cuvée are eighty years old, averaging sixty. Fermentation is whole-bunch, ageing is eight months in concrete, and the wine is bottled unfiltered.
Drinking well now and over the next eight years. Serve at 16°C with roast lamb, grilled quail or braised lentils.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
