Description
Terroir Sense Fronteres Montsant Vèrtebra de la Figuera is pure Garnacha from three plots at 700 to 800 metres, among the highest vineyards in the region.
The name means the spine of Figuera. La Figuera sits in the comarca of Priorat but its wines fall under DO Montsant rather than DOQ Priorat, near the old slate-mining villages of El Lloar and El Molar. The three old-vine plots lie between 700 and 800 metres on the slopes of the Montsant range, on red clay and limestone layered with gypsum, so the soils are alkaline rather than acidic. Fruit from this ground is so fine that local growers call their vines Garnatxa Fina. The oldest vines in this cuvée are 80 years, the average 60. Vinification follows the infusion approach used across the range: 100 per cent whole-bunch fermentation, eight months in concrete and no oak, then bottling unfiltered. Altitude does the rest, keeping acidity intact through a hot Catalan summer.
Good now with air and better in two or three years; serve with grilled lamb, herb-roasted vegetables and Manchego at 16°C.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
