Trimbach Gewurztraminer Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre 2015

Trimbach Gewurztraminer Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre is the house's reserve Gewurztraminer, named for the noble family that once ruled Ribeauvillé.

The cuvée is selected from the family's oldest Gewurztraminer parcels on the marl and limestone slopes around Ribeauvillé, picked later than the classic bottling and cropped at low yields. Gewurztraminer here is pressed whole bunch and fermented in stainless steel without malolactic fermentation or oak, then given a long rest on fine lees and several years in bottle before release, which is why the wine reaches the market with bottle age already behind it. It carries 24 grams per litre of residual sugar, a level that reads as richly off-dry rather than sweet against the wine's weight, spice and low acidity.

Broad, spicy and only lightly sweet, it suits foie gras, smoked duck, Munster and mildly spiced Asian dishes; serve at 12 degrees.
