Description
Verget Mâcon-Bussières Vignes de Montbrison is a barrel-fermented Mâconnais Chardonnay from one of the oldest plots in the vineyard.
The Mâcon-Bussières vineyard lies north of the Roche de Vergisson, the great limestone outcrop of the southern Mâconnais, directly below the village of the same name. It faces southeast on a gentle slope where shallow clay-limestone soil is packed with stones. Verget is the house Jean-Marie Guffens built at Sologny, buying fruit from growers across the Mâconnais and Côte d'Or and vinifying it with the same care as a domaine would. This bottling comes from a plot of vines over forty years old. Only free-run juice was used, and fermentation took place entirely in wood, a quarter of it new. Guffens is the source of the line that no wine is over-oaked, only under-fruited, and the seasoning here is pitched to match the concentration of the fruit.
Drinking well now and holding for four or five years. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, grilled snapper or Gruyère.
