Description
Verget Pouilly-Fuissé Terres de Pierres sets north-facing fruit from below the Roche de Vergisson against south-facing parcels elsewhere in the appellation.
Pouilly-Fuissé is the leading appellation of the Mâconnais, spread across four communes beneath the rock outcrops of Solutré and Vergisson. Verget, the négociant house founded by Jean-Marie Guffens, releases several cuvées under the Terres de Pierres name — stony land — so this should not be confused with the Mâcon-Villages that carries the same title. The blend draws on three sites within Pouilly-Fuissé: La Côte, facing due north directly below the Roche de Vergisson, which supplies the cool mineral line, and south-facing vines at Vers la Croix and Les Littes, which contribute density and layered texture. The wines were fermented naturally and aged for six months in used barrels, so the oak works as texture rather than flavour.
Drinking now and over the next four to five years. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, grilled fish or a Gruyère tart.
