Vietti Timorasso Derthona Colli Tortonesi 2023

Vietti Derthona is a Timorasso from the Colli Tortonesi, in the eastern corner of Piedmont.

Timorasso had almost disappeared by the late twentieth century before a handful of growers around Tortona revived it, and Derthona, the Roman name for the town, is now used for the wines. The variety gives a firm, textural white with real capacity to age, quite unlike the region's lighter Cortese. The hills here are clay and limestone at moderate altitude. Vietti ferments in stainless steel and holds the wine on lees to build texture.

Serve at 11 degrees with rich fish dishes, veal or aged cheese. It develops well over six to eight years.
