Vieux Télégraphe Télégramme Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2020

Vieux Télégraphe Télégramme Châteauneuf-du-Pape is the second wine of Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe, one of the Southern Rhône's most famous estates.

The Brunier family's story here began in 1891, when Henri Brunier gave vineyard plots on the La Crau plateau to his son Hippolyte. The flagship wine comes from the stony La Crau plateau, while Télégramme draws on vines under 30 years old and older parcels away from the La Crau and Piedlong plateaus. Grenache leads the blend, supported by Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault. The grapes are sorted three times, destemmed and fermented in temperature-controlled tanks. The wine then rests in vat before finishing in large French oak foudres, and is released around 18 months after harvest.

At around 17 degrees it's a great partner for slow-roasted lamb shoulder, beef daube or grilled sausages with herbs. It's made for earlier drinking than the grand vin and is supple and round now, though a quick decant helps it open up.
