Description
Vignobles Ludovic Pierrot Santenay Rouge 'Clos Genêt' is a village Pinot Noir from the far southern tip of the Côte d'Or.
Santenay closes out the Côte de Beaune, the southern half of the narrow limestone escarpment that has been Burgundy's heartland since the Cistercians began mapping its vineyards in the Middle Ages. Beyond it the slope fragments into the Maranges and the classic geology gives out. Pinot Noir accounts for the great majority of plantings in the commune, grown on marl and limestone that changes character quickly as the ground is broken by faulting. Village wines are typically destemmed, fermented in open vats with hand plunging or gentle pumping over, and matured for around twelve months in used barrels so the fruit stays in the foreground.
Serve at 15 to 16°C with roast chicken, charcuterie, or a mushroom and lentil dish; approachable young but capable of five to eight years.
