Weinbach Altenbourg Vendanges Tardives is a late-harvest Pinot Gris from a limestone site the domaine considers ideal for the variety.

Altenbourg lies east of Schlossberg, just below the Furstentum grand cru, on limestone and rich clay soils that suit Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris and Muscat. Vendanges tardives is a legally defined Alsace category requiring late picking at high must weights, and the Faller family, who farm biodynamically, have a long record with these styles: their sweet wines carry depth without losing mineral drive. This bottling finished with 97 grams per litre of residual sugar, and the density on the palate is offset by lively acidity that carries the sweetness rather than letting it sit. It is powerful but built on clarity, with no heaviness through the finish.

Ready now and capable of two decades or more. Serve at 8-10°C with foie gras, a blue cheese, or fruit-based desserts.
