Description
Weinbach Cuvée Sainte Catherine is a dry grand cru Riesling from five plots of 60-plus-year-old vines at the heart of the Schlossberg slope.
Schlossberg rises above Kaysersberg and Kientzheim and was the first vineyard in Alsace granted grand cru status, in 1975. Its granitic, mineral-rich soils and strong sun exposure give a Riesling that is deep and layered rather than merely aromatic, and the Faller family, who farm biodynamically here, are its largest landholders. The cuvée takes its name from the feast of Sainte Catherine on 25 November: early vintages were picked on or about that date and drew their concentration from the Alsace autumn. Picking now happens as much as a month earlier, but this remains the most complete of the domaine's dry Rieslings, made in a style where ripeness and structure carry equal weight.
Drinking now and capable of fifteen years or more. Serve at 10-12°C with roast pork, choucroute or a plate of freshwater fish.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
