Description
Weingut Bernhard Ott Am Berg Grüner Veltliner is the estate's everyday expression of Austria's signature white grape, grown on the loess terraces of the Wagram.
The Wagram is a long ridge of wind blown loess north west of Vienna, and Feuersbrunn, where the Ott family is based, sits close to its heart. Bernhard Ott is a fourth generation grower who has become one of the most recognised names in Austrian wine, and the estate has been farmed biodynamically for many years. Am Berg is drawn from parcels of younger vines across the loess slopes. Fruit is hand picked, pressed gently and fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, with no oak and no malolactic fermentation, so the emphasis falls squarely on site and grape rather than on cellar work. It is the wine by which the estate is most often first met.
Serve at around 10 degrees with schnitzel, roast chicken, asparagus or lighter Asian dishes; it is at its best within a few years of release.
