Weingut Bernhard Ott Grüner Veltliner Fass 4 2022

Weingut Bernhard Ott Grüner Veltliner Fass 4 takes its name from cask number four in the family cellar, and is the estate's classic Wagram Grüner Veltliner.

Feuersbrunn, where the Ott family has grown vines for four generations, lies on the Wagram, a broad terrace of wind deposited loess north of the Danube. Loess holds water well and gives Grüner Veltliner a particular breadth, and it is the defining soil of the region. Fass 4 draws on parcels around the village and is named for the large old cask traditionally used for the estate's everyday wine, a name kept on as the winemaking modernised. The fruit is hand picked and pressed as whole bunches, fermentation is spontaneous, malolactic fermentation is avoided and the wine rests on its fine lees before bottling.

Serve at about 10 degrees with schnitzel, roast pork or vegetable dishes; it drinks well young but holds for several years.
