Description
Yannick Amirault Bourgueil Rosé Equinox is a dry Cabernet Franc rosé from one of the appellation's benchmark organic estates.
Bourgueil sits on the right bank of the Loire, sheltered by a wooded ridge to the north, and is planted almost entirely to Cabernet Franc on two terroirs: gravel and sand terraces near the river, and tuffeau limestone slopes behind them. Domaine Yannick Amirault works some forty parcels across Bourgueil and Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, farmed organically and picked by hand, and is now run with Yannick's son Benoît. Rosé is a small part of production here, made from the same Cabernet Franc as the reds and run off after a short maceration so the wine keeps a pale colour and low phenolics. Cabernet Franc rosé from the Loire has a character of its own, drier and more savoury than a Provençal rosé, with red-fruit and herbal notes and a firmer acid line, and it is vinified in tank to preserve exactly that.
Bone dry and food-friendly, it works with charcuterie, salads, grilled fish and summer vegetable dishes; serve well chilled at around 8 to 10 degrees.
