Description
Adelina Shiraz is a certified organic Clare Valley red from very old vines.
The block sits in the middle of Clare's best-known Shiraz country, 150 metres from Wendouree on one side and the Aberfeldy vineyard on the other. Planting records are vague, but the vines are thought to date to about 1910, and they are now certified organic. Red silty topsoil runs over clay shot through with limestone and slate, which is where the mineral edge and the tight yields come from. Fruit was handpicked, destemmed and left sixteen days on skins in a concrete fermenter, then pressed to large-format oak, under a fifth of it new, for malolactic conversion and eleven months of maturation. Quantities are small.
Dark plum, dried herb and iron, with the density you expect from vines this old and none of the heaviness. The tannins are firm and dry. Decant, serve at 16 to 18 degrees, and put it next to lamb shoulder, grilled kangaroo or a slow-cooked beef shin.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
