Description
La Guiraude is Alain Graillot's tête de cuvée, a barrel selection made only in seasons where certain barrels show particular intensity and ageing potential.
Crozes-Hermitage surrounds the hill of Hermitage on the left bank of the northern Rhône, and the Graillot vineyards lie on the Terrasse des Chassis at Pont-de-l'Isère, where ancient alluvial deposits have left a sea of smooth, rolled river stones. The domaine, founded by Alain Graillot in the 1980s and now run with his sons Maxime and Antoine, is the reference point for the appellation. La Guiraude is not so much a better wine than the domaine Crozes as a different one: chosen for power and structure, and made to be cellared for longer. It is deeper and more velvety, with blackcurrant and confit cherry, tapenade, bramble and cacao, serious depth and plenty of fine tannin behind it.
Already seductive but built for the cellar; serve at 16-18°C with roast beef, game or a mature hard cheese.
