Alain Jaume Le Miocène Rouge Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2023

Alain Jaume Le Miocène is a Grenache-led Châteauneuf-du-Pape named for the Miocene-era soils beneath the vineyard.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape sits on the left bank of the Rhône north of Avignon, where the famous galets roulés, large rounded stones deposited by the river, hold the day's heat and release it overnight. Le Miocène comes from sandier, marl-based parcels laid down in the Miocene epoch rather than the stony plateau, which gives a lighter frame. The Jaume family has grown vines at Orange since 1826 and farms organically across the estate. Grenache leads, with Syrah and Mourvèdre, aged in a mix of concrete and old oak.

Serve at 17 degrees with roast lamb, daube or a herb-crusted rack. It will develop over twelve years.
