Description
Alamos Malbec is a generous, well-priced red from the high-altitude vineyards of Mendoza in Argentina.
Made by the Catena family, who have grown grapes in Mendoza for more than a century, Alamos draws on vineyards in the foothills of the Andes at roughly 900 to 1,500 metres above sea level. At that height the sunlight is intense and the nights are cool, so the grapes ripen fully while holding their freshness, and the vines are watered with snowmelt from the mountains. Malbec is the heart of the wine, and the supplier notes a small amount of Bonarda in the blend. Winemaker Lucía Vaieretti aims for a soft, fruit-forward style with ripe tannins, the kind of Malbec that made Argentina's name.
This is a barbecue red first and foremost. Pour it at around 16 to 18 degrees with grilled steak, lamb chops, beef empanadas, burgers or a tomato-based pasta. It is made for drinking young, so there is no need to cellar it.
