Description
Alberto Oggero's Roero Arneis is made in two halves, one pressed as whole bunches and one given three days on skins.
Arneis is Roero's native white, historically interplanted among Nebbiolo and grown seriously in its own right only since the 1970s. This bottling draws on two sandy parcels, in the vineyards of S.S. Trinità at Canale and San Michele at Santo Stefano Roero, with vines averaging 20 years and sitting at around 280 metres. The hand-picked fruit was divided in two: half was pressed as whole bunches and fermented on indigenous yeasts, while the other half spent three days on skins to add grip and draw more of the site into the glass. Ageing was split evenly between stainless steel and large, untoasted Slavonian oak casks, so the wood adds air and texture rather than flavour. The wine was bottled with no fining and no filtration.
Drink now and over the next three years. Serve at 10–12°C with vitello tonnato, grilled fish or a fresh goat's cheese.
