Albino Rocca Barbaresco 2020

Albino Rocca Barbaresco is the estate's classic bottling, built on old vines at Meruzzano with young-vine fruit from the Ronchi and Cottà crus.

Barbaresco lies east of Alba in the Langhe and gives Nebbiolo of a generally more perfumed, earlier-drinking cast than Barolo. The Rocca family works from cellars above the Ronchi vineyard, and its straight Barbaresco has traditionally been drawn from a parcel of old vines at Meruzzano. It now also takes in a selection of young-vine fruit from two of the estate's cru holdings, Ronchi and Cottà, which raises the quality at this level appreciably. The grapes spend three weeks on skins, and the wine is matured exclusively in large Stockinger botti for twenty-four months, with no small oak at any stage. The result is a serious introduction both to the estate's range and to the vintage, showing the fleshy power and precision that has marked recent Rocca Barbarescos.

Approachable after two or three years and good for a decade or more. Serve with tajarin, roast veal or a mushroom ragù at 16 to 18°C.
