Albino Rocca Barbaresco 2021

Albino Rocca Barbaresco is the estate's straight appellation wine, built around old vines in Meruzzano with young-vine fruit from three of the family's crus.

The classic source for this bottling is a parcel of old vines in Meruzzano, in the San Rocco Seno d'Elvio sector on the southern edge of the appellation. To that the family now adds a selection of young-vine fruit from three cru parcels, Ovello, Cottà and, principally, Ronchi, which lifts the wine well above what the label suggests. Winemaking is unhurried and deliberately undemonstrative: around three weeks on skins, then maturation exclusively in large, low-impact oak botti for 24 months, with no new barriques anywhere in the process. The result is a Barbaresco with the aromatic signature of Nebbiolo intact, tannins that are firm but finely drawn, and enough substance to reward cellaring, while remaining the most accessible wine in the Rocca range.

Approachable within a few years of release and good for a decade; serve at 16–18°C with braised veal shank, tagliatelle with ragù or a mushroom tart.
