Description

Albino Rocca Barbaresco Angelo is the estate's assembly of its best Nebbiolo, named for Angelo Rocca and made by submerged-cap fermentation in an oak vat.

Barbaresco DOCG sits on the right bank of the Tanaro in the Langhe, where Nebbiolo ripens on Tortonian marl and gives pale, high-acid wines with fine-grained tannin. The Rocca family sold grapes and bulk wine here from the 1940s before Albino began bottling under his own name; his son Angelo built the modern estate, and since Angelo's death in 2012 it has been run by his three daughters, with Paola making the wine. Angelo is the assembly wine, dedicated to his memory from the 2013 vintage onward and drawn from Nebbiolo grown at Ronchi and Ovello in Barbaresco and at Montersino in San Rocco Seno d'Elvio, on slopes facing south-east to south-west. It is made by submerged-cap fermentation in an oak vat with a long maceration, then aged about twenty months in oak casks and around nine months in bottle.

Built for the cellar; give it a decade if you can, or decant well ahead. Serve at 16-18°C with braised beef cheek, mushroom risotto or aged Castelmagno.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
