Albino Rocca Barbaresco Angelo 2017

Barbaresco Angelo is the wine the Rocca sisters dedicated to the memory of their father, first made in 2013 and drawn from vineyards between Ronchi and Ovello together with Montersino at San Rocco Seno d'Elvio.

Barbaresco lies on the right bank of the Tanaro north-east of Alba, on Tortonian marl that gives Nebbiolo a finer and more perfumed frame than the Barolo communes to the south. Angelo Rocca shaped the estate in its modern form, and since his death it has been run by his three daughters, Daniela, Monica and Paola, with Carlo Castellengo as agronomist and winemaker; the family has bottled at Barbaresco for four generations and the winery in its present form dates from around 1960. This bottling gathers Nebbiolo from parcels between the Ronchi and Ovello mentions in Barbaresco and from Montersino at San Rocco Seno d'Elvio near Alba. It is made in the older manner, with a submerged cap in an oak vat and a long maceration, then about twenty months in oak cask and a further nine months in bottle.

It asks for several years and a decant if opened early. Serve at 16-18°C with braised beef, game birds or aged hard cheese.
