Description
Albino Rocca Barbaresco Cottà comes from a micro-parcel of fifty-year-old vines in one of the great crus of Neive, and runs to no more than 2,000 bottles.
Cottà sits in the commune of Neive, in the eastern part of Barbaresco, and was among the first sites in the appellation to be bottled as a single vineyard. The Roccas work a tiny holding in the middle of its southwest-facing slope, next to their Gepin parcel of Barbera and directly facing their Ronchi vineyard. The vines are around fifty years old. Soils here are sand-rich clay and marl, and the microclimate is warmer than at Ronchi, a combination that gives generous but fine-boned wines well suited to the estate's elegant handling of Nebbiolo. Vinification is classical, with long maceration and maturation in large casks rather than barriques, and this is the fourth release of the cuvée. In most years it is the prettiest and most approachable of the estate's crus.
Drinkable earlier than its siblings but worth three to five years, and good for fifteen or more. Serve with veal, agnolotti or a hard alpine cheese at 16 to 18°C.
