Albino Rocca Barbaresco Ronchi 1.5L MAGNUM 2017

A magnum of Albino Rocca's Barbaresco Ronchi, from the family's east and south-east facing parcels in the mention that gives the winery its address.

Barbaresco occupies the hills on the right bank of the Tanaro north-east of Alba, on Tortonian marl that is sandier than the Barolo communes to the south and gives Nebbiolo a finer, more perfumed frame. Ronchi sits within the commune of Barbaresco on marl in which limestone predominates, threaded with clay and sand, and the family's parcels there all catch the morning sun. The Roccas have bottled at Barbaresco for four generations, with the winery in its present form dating from around 1960; Daniela, Monica and Paola Rocca have run it since their father Angelo's death, alongside agronomist and winemaker Carlo Castellengo. The wine is matured for about twenty months in oak cask and six months in bottle. A magnum takes the same wine at half the ratio of oxygen to volume, so it comes round more slowly than the standard bottle.

Cellar it and open it for a table of six or more. Serve at 16-18°C with braised beef, hare ragù or aged hard cheese.
