Albino Rocca Barbaresco Ronchi 2019

Albino Rocca Barbaresco Ronchi comes from the estate's oldest and largest holding, a limestone-rich cru on the southern edge of the appellation.

Barbaresco lies in the Langhe hills of Piedmont, where Nebbiolo ripens a little earlier than in Barolo and the wines tend to be more perfumed and slightly finer boned. Ronchi runs along the southern belt of the appellation near the village of Barbaresco itself, and the Rocca cellars sit directly above this southeast-facing slope, which is one reason the site has become so closely associated with the family name. The estate's holding extends to nearly six hectares, three of them Nebbiolo, roughly a third of the cru. The vines are now between 50 and 70 years old, and the combination of vine age, deep clay and limestone soils and south-eastern exposure produces a wine that is aromatic, structured and long-lived. It shows the cool, linear freshness that is a hallmark of the site, with silky flesh over refined tannins.

It will repay ten to twenty years in bottle and needs decanting if opened young; serve at 16–18°C with braised beef, truffle pasta or aged Castelmagno.
