Albino Rocca Barbaresco Ronchi 3L DOUBLE MAGNUM 2020

Albino Rocca Barbaresco Ronchi comes from the estate's oldest and largest holding, a limestone-rich cru on the southern edge of the appellation, offered here in double magnum.

Barbaresco lies east of Alba in the Langhe, and its Nebbiolo is generally the more perfumed and earlier-approachable of Piedmont's two great appellations. Ronchi runs along the southern belt of the commune, close to the town itself, and the Rocca cellars sit just above the southeast-facing slope, which is one reason the site has become synonymous with the family name. Ronchi is also the oldest and largest holding of the estate, extending to almost six hectares, three of them Nebbiolo, or roughly a third of the total cru. The vines are now between 50 and 70 years old, planted in deep clay and limestone, and the combination of vine age, soil and exposure has long made this one of Barbaresco's more structured and aromatic wines. Vinification is classical, with long maceration and maturation in large casks rather than barriques.

Large format slows development further: give it five to ten years and expect several decades. Serve with braised beef, agnolotti del plin or aged Castelmagno at 16 to 18°C.
