Description
Albino Rocca Nebbiolo d'Alba comes from a single parcel sitting between Barolo and Barbaresco.
Nebbiolo d'Alba covers the Nebbiolo grown outside the two great Langhe appellations, on lighter, sandier soils either side of the Tanaro, and it is where the variety shows its perfume and lift without the tannic weight of its senior siblings. The Rocca family, based in the village of Barbaresco, work almost entirely from single sites, and this wine is no exception: the fruit is drawn from one parcel in the westernmost section of the Seno d'Elvio subzone, an area known locally as Terra di Mezzo, or middle earth. Vine age there ranges from fifteen to sixty years. After fermentation the wine was matured for twelve months in large Austrian and German Stockinger casks, a format the estate favours across the range because it allows slow oxygen exchange without adding oak flavour. The result is a Nebbiolo built for the table rather than the cellar.
Drinkable now and over the next five or six years; serve at 16-18°C with veal, roast chicken or a plate of tajarin with butter.
