Algueira Finca Cortezada 2019

Algueira Finca Cortezada is a white field blend from a terraced amphitheatre carved into the Ribeira Sacra hillside well over a century ago.

The Finca Cortezada vineyard sits in the Ribeira do Sil sub-region, its walled terraces two to three metres high and 200 metres long, climbing a dizzyingly steep slope. Fernando González Riveiro found the plot abandoned and reclaimed by Galician forest, and spent years clearing the land and rebuilding the ancient walls; every task here is still done by hand. The old vines are planted to Albariño, Godello and Treixadura, rooted in soils rich in gneiss, quartz and slate. This release is 40 per cent Godello, 40 per cent Albariño and 20 per cent Treixadura, co-fermented with indigenous yeasts and then aged for six months in stainless steel, a deliberately neutral raising that keeps the attention on site rather than cellar work.

Drink over the next five years with grilled fish, empanada or scallops. Serve at 10-12°C.
