Alois Lageder Cantina Riff Ramato Pinot Grigio 2023

Alois Lageder Cantina Riff Ramato Pinot Grigio is a copper-coloured Pinot Grigio made with time on skins.

Ramato means coppery in Italian, and it is the traditional north-eastern Italian way with Pinot Grigio: the grape has pinkish-grey skins, and leaving the juice in contact with them draws out colour and texture rather than bleaching it away. Alois Lageder is a sixth-generation Alto Adige house at Magrè, working biodynamically on its own estate and with a wide circle of growers across the Dolomites and the Venezie. The Riff label is the approachable end of the range. Skin contact is short, fermentation is in stainless steel, and the wine is bottled without oak.

Serve at 10 to 12 degrees, cooler than a red but not fridge cold, with charcuterie, roast chicken or a mushroom risotto.
