Description

Amaro Montenegro is one of Italy's best-loved amari, from Bologna, at 23% alcohol.

Stanislao Cobianchi created the recipe in Bologna in 1885 and named it in honour of Princess Elena of Montenegro, who became Queen of Italy. It is made from forty botanicals, among them orange peel, coriander and marjoram, and sits at the lighter, sweeter end of the amaro family, with a gentle bitterness.

Serve neat or over ice after dinner, with a twist of orange, or lengthen with tonic.
