Animale Pinot Noir 2025

Animale Pinot Noir is a light-bodied red from the Yarra Valley.

Cahilton vineyard, in the lower Yarra, grows the low-cropping MV6 clone on brown duplex clays, and the fruit that comes off it has real potency for a wine of this weight. A strong flowering, a warm spring and a dry December produced a good crop. Picking happened early to keep the freshness and floral character intact. In the winery the bunches were completely destemmed and fermented for a fortnight with gentle daily pump-overs, then the wine spent a couple of months in oak before bottling in November without fining or filtration.

Red cherry, rhubarb and a rose-petal lift, light on its feet with fine tannin and clean acidity. Serve it at 14-15 degrees, lightly chilled. Good with roast duck, salmon off the grill, or mushrooms on toast.
