Animus Distillery Arboretum Gin 100ml

Animus Distillery Arboretum Gin 100ml is a small bottle of the distillery's savoury native-botanical gin.

Australian native ingredients get used badly often enough that it is worth pointing out when they are used well. Strawberry gum, bush tomato, mountain pepperberry, lemon myrtle and sarsaparilla all appear, grown in the garden at the Kyneton distillery and picked the day they go in, alongside bay leaf, rosemary, lemon thyme, capsicum, orange, cardamom, clove, coriander seed, angelica, star anise and turmeric. Juniper still leads. A hundred millilitres gives you a few drinks, which is the right amount for working out whether a gin this unusual belongs in your cupboard.

Herbal, resinous and dry, with a green savouriness that sets it well apart from a London Dry. One 30ml measure makes a gin and tonic with a rosemary sprig. Two make a pair of dry Martinis, which is arguably the better use.
