Animus Distillery Davidsonia Gin 100ml is a small bottle of this Australian fruit gin.

Australian native fruit gets used for novelty often enough, so it is worth saying that the Davidson's plum here is doing real work: genuinely sour, genuinely tannic, and behaving in steeping much the way a sloe does. The fruit comes from temperate Queensland, is snap-frozen, then sits for months in an overproof Macedon Dry base before being pressed gently at the Musk Lane winery nearby. Each year's bottling has its own character, and this one is lighter than most. For that reason it is best drunk over days and weeks, or kept in the fridge once opened.

Bright plum, lemon and rosehip lead, with morello cherry and guava behind and a puckering, tannic close. Serve it cold and neat, add soda and blood orange for something longer, or build it into a sour. It makes a fine cocktail base.
