Animus Distillery Macedon Dry Gin 100ml is a small bottle of the distillery's flagship dry gin.

A hundred millilitres buys three drinks, which is enough to settle an argument about whether a gin is worth a full bottle. What is in it is the Kyneton distillery's benchmark: a juniper-forward dry gin with lemon myrtle and mountain pepperberry giving it an Australian accent, plus cinnamon, cardamom, angelica root, clove, coriander seed, sarsaparilla root, star anise, lemon, lime, turmeric and rosemary. The Macedon Ranges site has a botanical garden attached, and the fresh ingredients go from bed to still on the same day. The format also makes a straightforward gift, or luggage-friendly packing.

Juniper, pine and a peppery citrus lift, with a texture smoother than the price suggests. One 30ml pour makes a proper gin and tonic, with tonic, ice and lemon. Use the rest on a Martini, which is where this style shines.
