Description
Aphelion Plaisted's Single Site Grenache Noir comes from one old-vine block in McLaren Vale, bottled on its own.
Aphelion was started in 2014 by Rob and Louise Mack, who built the label around Grenache at a time when the variety was still being sold cheaply as a blending grape. They work with a handful of named growers across McLaren Vale and keep each site separate, so the differences between the sands of Blewitt Springs and the heavier soils further down the valley show in the glass. Fruit is hand-picked, fermented with whole bunches and native yeast, and matured in older French oak with no new wood.
Serve slightly cool at 16 degrees with lamb, charcuterie or roast vegetables. It has the frame for a decade.
