Description

Aphelion Welkin Falanghina is a southern Italian white grape grown in McLaren Vale.

Falanghina is native to Campania, where it makes taut, citrus-driven whites on volcanic soil, and it is one of a small group of Mediterranean varieties Australian growers have turned to as summers have warmed. Aphelion was founded in 2014 by Rob and Louise Mack, best known for Grenache but increasingly working with varieties suited to a dry climate. The Welkin label is the more immediate side of the range. The fruit is whole-bunch pressed, fermented cool in stainless steel and bottled without oak.

Serve at 8 to 10 degrees with grilled fish, calamari, pasta with clams or a simple goat's cheese.
