Description
Arfion Pinot Grigio is a dry white from the lower Yarra Valley.
Yarra Station lies on a steep, south-facing slope in the lower Yarra Valley, with soils rich in granite and grey clay and ironstone running through them. Cool ground is exactly what a grape like Grigio needs, since it sheds acid quickly. Dave Mackintosh picked in the early morning and pressed straight to tank, and when fermentation started slowly a second parcel went into the same tank a few days later. The ferment ran eighteen days and peaked at 22 degrees. Two stirs, a few months of maturation, then bottling. None of it is designed to obscure the site.
Nashi pear, lemon and a savoury, almost stony finish, with more texture than most Grigio carries at this weight. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees. Good with oysters, a prawn and fennel salad, salt-cured salmon, or pasta with zucchini and lemon.
