Arfion Spring Pinot Noir 2024

Arfion Spring Pinot Noir is a light, early-drinking Pinot Noir from the lower Yarra Valley.

Two lower Yarra Valley sites feed this, and they were handled differently on purpose. Cahilton, the larger share, was picked in the cool of the morning and destemmed straight into open fermenters. The Yarra Station parcel went in as whole bunches and was left largely alone. Once dry, the two were pressed together and aged at low temperatures. That combination of destemmed weight, whole-bunch lift, minimal working and cold handling is what gives the wine its shape: a Pinot built for drinking now, not for the cellar. Dave Mackintosh has been making wine under this label in the Yarra for years.

Red cherry, cranberry and a whiff of stem spice, with light tannin and a juicy finish. Twenty minutes in the fridge and serve at around 14 degrees. Charcuterie, roast chicken, mushrooms on toast or a fillet of salmon will all suit.
