Armand Heitz Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Maltroie 2021

Armand Heitz Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Maltroie is a white Burgundy from a premier cru sitting immediately beside the village.

Chassagne-Montrachet lies at the southern end of the Côte de Beaune and was a red wine village well within living memory; Chardonnay only came to dominate its slopes in the second half of the twentieth century. La Maltroie is a premier cru on the Santenay side of the village, on shallow clay over limestone, and its wines are generally more precisely built than those from the warmer climats further south. Armand Heitz has farmed his family's parcels here since 2012, working biodynamically and as part of a mixed farm that keeps animals and crops among the vineyards. Vinification is deliberately understated, with whole bunch pressing, ageing largely in used barrels and little intervention.

Serve at around 12 degrees with turbot, scallops or poultry in cream; give it three to five years in the cellar to open out.
