Description
Armand Heitz Meursault Blagny 1er Cru comes from the tiny hamlet of Blagny, perched in the woods on the boundary between Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet.
Blagny is one of Burgundy's odder corners, a handful of houses high on the hill with an appellation that changes according to colour and address. Red wine from the hamlet is sold as Blagny, while the whites are labelled either Puligny-Montrachet or, on the Meursault side of the line, Meursault-Blagny, always at premier cru level. The vineyards sit above the main run of premiers crus, on thin stony soil at greater altitude, which makes for a cooler site and a later harvest. Armand Heitz took over his family's vines in the 2010s and farms organically, with a regenerative approach that brings livestock, trees and hedgerows back into the vineyards.
Serve lightly chilled with river fish, veal or a gratin of winter vegetables, and give it a few years in the cellar to settle.
