Arnaud et Sophie Sirugue-Noëllat Bourgogne Passetoutgrains Rouge 2023

Arnaud et Sophie Sirugue-Noëllat Bourgogne Passetoutgrains Rouge is the old Burgundian house red, Gamay and Pinot Noir grown and vinified together.

The domaine sits in the middle of Vosne-Romanée, twelve hectares brought under one roof when Sophie Noëllat and Arnaud Sirugue married and merged two family estates in the Côte de Nuits. Chalky ground feeds this blend, and extraction in the cellar is kept soft so the fruit stays forward. The appellation asks for at least a third Pinot Noir alongside Gamay; here the Pinot leads.

Strawberry and raspberry come first, with a little cherry, a dusting of spice, juicy acidity and soft tannin at 12.5% alcohol. A light chill helps, so pour it at 14 to 16 degrees. Charcuterie, roast poultry, coq au vin and washed-rind cheese all sit well beside it.
