Arnaud et Sophie Sirugue-Noëllat Grands Échezeaux Grand Cru 2023

Arnaud et Sophie Sirugue-Noëllat Grands Échezeaux Grand Cru comes from a parcel of barely 0.12 hectares, enough for only a few dozen cases each harvest.

Those vines lie between Clos de Vougeot and Échezeaux on an east-south-east facing slope, planted at 10,000 vines per hectare and trained to guyot on limestone and stone that lends real mineral tension. Bunches go in whole and ferment on wild yeast between 28 and 30 degrees with nothing added, then sixteen to eighteen months in new French oak follow, and the wine is bottled without fining or filtration.

Black cherry, ripe raspberry, violet and peony open into liquorice, black tea and sweet spice, framed by precise tannin and a long mineral close. Decant it and pour at 15 degrees in a large Burgundy glass. Hare, venison or squab with truffle will meet it, and ten to fifteen years in the cellar will repay patience.
