Arnaud et Sophie Sirugue-Noëllat Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Petits Monts sits high on the slope, one of the loftiest premiers crus in the commune.

This climat runs to roughly 3.7 hectares towards Flagey-Échezeaux, where calcareous soil mixed with marl and pebbles drains hard and the altitude keeps nights cool, stretching out ripening. Extraction stays gentle, ageing happens in French barrels with the proportion of new wood held down, and the site is left to do most of the talking.

Cherry and raspberry arrive early, then violet and fine spice, carried on silky texture, tight tannin and lively acidity at 13.5% alcohol. Around fifteen degrees suits it. Pan-roasted duck breast, game birds, or anything built on porcini or truffle will match it, as will a ripe Brillat-Savarin.
