Description
Arnaud Lambert Coteaux de Saumur Bonne Nouvelle is a sweet Chenin Blanc from one of the Loire's smallest and rarest appellations, bottled in a 500 millilitre format.
Coteaux de Saumur is made in tiny quantities on the tuffeau slopes around Saumur, and only in years that allow late picking of Chenin Blanc. Arnaud Lambert farms around fifty hectares between Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg and the hill of Breze, all certified organic, and is best known for restoring the Breze vineyard to prominence. The chalky tuffeau limestone there gives Chenin Blanc a firm, saline structure that stops sweet wines from turning heavy. Bonne Nouvelle is harvested in selective passes through the vineyard, pressed gently and fermented slowly, and the ferment stops with around 86 grams per litre of residual sugar remaining. No new oak is used.
Sweet but chiselled and quite fresh for the style, it suits foie gras, tarte Tatin or a hard sheep's cheese; serve well chilled, at about 8 to 10 degrees.
