Description

Arnaud Lambert Saumur Brézé Bourguenne is a dry Chenin Blanc from a single parcel on the Brézé hillside, of which just three barrels are made.

The Brézé hill south of Saumur is one of the oldest recorded white wine sites in France, its slopes carved into walled clos and its subsoil of tuffeau limestone tunnelled with cellars. Arnaud Lambert farms from Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg on the tuffeau plateau south of the Loire, home of his family's Domaine de Saint-Just, and he also farms the historic vineyards of Château de Brézé. Each parcel is picked and vinified on its own, and this bottling is tiny, amounting to three barrels. Fruit is harvested by hand from organically farmed vines, pressed whole-bunch and fermented with indigenous yeasts, then aged on fine lees in seasoned wood for an extended élevage before bottling. At this scale the wine is effectively a barrel selection from a single site, made without fining down to a house style.

Concentrated and firmly dry, it wants roast poultry, veal or aged cheese and a few years in the cellar; serve at around 12 degrees.
