Description
Arnaud Lambert Saumur Brézé Bourguenne is a dry single-parcel Chenin Blanc from the Brézé hillside, made in a run of three barrels.
Brézé is a limestone ridge south of Saumur, historically the most prized source of white wine in Anjou and still divided into the walled clos that gave those wines their names. Arnaud Lambert farms from Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg on the tuffeau plateau south of the Loire, home of his family's Domaine de Saint-Just, and he also farms the historic vineyards of Château de Brézé. The vineyards are farmed organically, ploughed rather than treated with herbicide, and harvested by hand parcel by parcel. This cuvée amounts to no more than three barrels. The grapes are pressed in whole bunches, fermented with the yeasts carried in on the fruit and then left on fine lees in seasoned wood for a long élevage, which builds texture and lets the wine take on the salty, stony character the hill is known for.
A dense and structured dry Chenin for the cellar or for rich food such as roast veal and mature cheese; serve at around 12 degrees.
