Description
Arnaud Lambert Saumur Brézé Clos Mazurique is a dry Chenin Blanc from a walled parcel on the historic hill of Brézé.
Brézé is a limestone hill south of Saumur with a long documented history for white wine, its slopes riddled with tuffeau quarries and cellars cut into the rock. Arnaud Lambert took on the vineyards of the Chateau de Brézé and farms them organically, restoring the individual clos that ring the hill. Clos Mazurique is one of those enclosures, planted to Chenin Blanc on shallow clay over tuffeau. The fruit is hand picked, pressed whole bunch and fermented with indigenous yeast, then aged on fine lees in a mix of tank and older barrel to build texture while the wine stays dry and taut.
Dry, chalky and precise, it suits oysters, grilled fish, roast chicken and goat cheese; serve at around 10 to 12 degrees.
