Description
Arnaud Lambert Saumur Brézé Clos Tue-Loup is a Cabernet Franc from one of the walled parcels on the limestone hill of Brézé.
The hill of Brézé, just south of Saumur, is best known for Chenin Blanc, but its cooler, clay-bearing flanks also produce red wine of real finesse under the plain Saumur appellation. Clos Tue-Loup is one of the enclosed parcels Arnaud Lambert has brought back into production, planted on shallow soils over tuffeau limestone. Farming is organic, the harvest is by hand, and fermentation runs on indigenous yeast with a gentle infusion-style extraction. Elevage is in older wood, avoiding new oak so the chalky, fine-grained tannin of the site remains the defining feature of the wine.
Restrained and mineral rather than fleshy, it works with roast poultry, veal, mushrooms and soft cheese; serve at around 16 degrees.
