Arnaud Lambert Saumur Brézé La Rue 2020

Arnaud Lambert Saumur Brézé La Rue is a dry Chenin Blanc from a single parcel on the limestone hill of Brézé, south of Saumur.

The hill of Brézé is a low mound of Turonian tuffeau limestone, in places capped with clay and flint, whose white wines were prized well beyond the Loire as early as the seventeenth century. Arnaud Lambert, based at Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg, took on the vineyards of the Château de Brézé alongside his family's Domaine de Saint-Just and converted them to organic farming, with ploughing between the rows and hand harvesting. Each parcel on the hill is vinified and bottled separately so that differences in soil depth and exposure show in the glass. The Chenin is pressed as whole bunches, fermented with indigenous yeasts and raised for an extended period on fine lees in older barrels and larger wood, then bottled dry.

Dry, taut and mineral, it suits scallops, turbot, roast poultry and hard cheeses; serve at around 12 degrees and decant when young.
